:- 3.0 out of 5 stars from Mwah! -- BUY BLACK FUTURES FROM SOMEWHERE ELSE!!! : This review is more about Amazon’s handling of the book rather than the book itself. Black Futures is a lovely collection of work on the contemporary black experience. Beginning in 2013, I found myself reliving and reviving feelings on so many events and art works that have happened since then. The most compelling thing is how it cements black people in the digital age, how social and digital mediums have interacted with and been used by black people. Truly amazing stuff, this book gives me, a black person a new perspective on how important black life in the digital age is. ( Reviewed in the United States on December 23, 2020 )
- 2.0 out of 5 stars from Well Read -- They Should've Just Called this "FRIENDS WE KNOW" and left it at that : The "Futures" title is a reach. This has nothing to do with Black Futures or anything like that. It is mostly an ill-designed scrapbook of some journos, a few notable writers, and a bunch of otherwise random people's random thoughts with the theme of "Black Lives Matter" throughout, which is fine but a stretch from the advance marketing on this as a work of afrofuturism. You'll read this in a different way, leaping in and out of it frequently, no start, no end, a continuous, beautiful collective - a modern history book. Kudos to Kimberly Drew and Jenna Wortham on the vision. This is beautifully bound and will look great on your coffee table, but more than a coffee table book.
